Monaci delle Terre Nere

True quality of life, peaceful landscapes and subtle luxury

Etna, Sicily, Italy

The historic estate of Monaci delle Terre Nere is located on the slopes of Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. With dramatic views over the volcano and the Mediterranean, this countryside boutique hotel is a very special place. Full of extraordinary charm and natural beauty, this spot was originally chosen by the monks of Discalced Augustinians of Valverde order in the 17th Century, and the estate was restored with great care. The estate has several rooms and suites, some in the main building - a noble dwelling of the 19th century - and others scattered around the organic farm.
The main building dates back to 19th century and is listed among historic buildings. The scattered Suites and Pool Villas are independent buildings within the estate, where you can enjoy Monaci’s silence and true identity. Here, the traditional Sicilian architecture is combined with contemporary art. In the process of restoring the buildings, the principles of Bio-architecture have been applied and part of the energy supply comes from renewable resources.
Explore the romantic, terraced gardens, stroll through the 25-hectare estate, visit the farm and vineyards, relax by the pretty pool, and discover its unique atmosphere for yourself.
Slow food, seasonality, and Sicilian-origins are the cornerstones of the cuisine at the restaurant Locanda Nerello. Whether it’s served on the scenic summer terrace overlooking the sea, or in the cosy, fireside dining room, zero-km farm to fork cooking takes centre stage. Produce is sourced from our own organic farm and hand-picked local suppliers.
Monaci delle Terre Nere cultivates its vineyards to produce its own wine, with native varieties of the Etna region. Mount Etna is the third most important wine producing area in Italy, for the great diversity of its land and its microclimates, and the extraordinary finesse of its wines. Taking advantage of the richness of Etna’s terroir.
